Dr Ashley Murphy graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons I) and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science. In 2019 he received his PhD in Engineering from Monash University's department of Materials Science and Engineering. Performed under the supervision of Prof. Neil Cameron, Ashley focused on evaluating the utility of porous scaffolds for supporting 3D neural cell culture.
In 2019 Ashley joined the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as a postdoctoral research fellow working on fundamental research towards improved in vitro retina models. In 2022 he joined the University of Queensland as a postdoctoral research fellow developing vascularised adipose tissue models and evaluating blood stem cell behaviour within defined 3D microenvironments. During his time at the University of Queensland, Ashley was awarded The School of Chemical Engineering Early Career Research award and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Ashley joined the MERLN Institute at Maastricht University in 2024 as a postdoctoral research fellow and is currently focusing on the development of novel organoid technologies.
