With a Bachelor from Wenzhou Medical University and a Master from Minzu University of China, Jin started his PhD career in October 2023. His project is aimed at the development of degradable hollow silica nanoparticles(HSNs) for pDNA intracellular delivery.
Plasmid(pDNA) can be used to carry therapeutic genes into human cells in gene therapy application. However, pDNA is susceptible to degradation by nucleases and pDNA release in vivo is hard to control. An immune response in vivo could be triggered if an undesired vector is in use. HSNs have the potential in effectively addressing these problems because of the large cavity, biocompatibility and etc. In his project, he will explore the possibility of encapsulation of pDNA into HSNs and verify the corresponding gene expression in intracellular environment.
