Milena Ślęczkowska obtained her education in Biotechnology at the University of Silesia. During her studies she worked at the University of Oxford, where she investigated defense responses against pathogenic bacteria.
After graduation, she worked at Medical University of Łódź, focusing on miRNA and matrix metalloproteinases role in glaucoma. She obtained her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Maastricht in 2023. Her work aimed to better understand the underlying cause of neuropathic pain. While applying next-generation sequencing and functional studies in her project, she developed an interest in stem cells and organoids to provide better models for translational research and regenerative medicine.
In November 2023, she joined the MERLN institute as a postdoc to study tubal fibrosis induced by Chlamydia in 3D in vitro oviduct model. Chlamydia trachomatis is a common sexually transmitted bacteria, causing inflammation, fibrosis, and damage of fallopian tubes, in many cases leading to tubal infertility.
