Fracture hematoma

Rald received his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine at Maastricht University in 2019 and 2020 respectively. He started his PhD in September 2020 and aims to combine this with his Master’s in Medicine.
Due to his passion for both medicine and science, his project is a collaboration between the department cBITE, MERLN institute and the section trauma surgery, surgery department of the MUMC+. His supervisors in MUMC+ are Taco Blokhuis and Martijn Poeze.

This translational research will focus on the human fracture hematoma and its role in bone- & fracture healing.
Impaired bone healing is still a major complication resulting from bone fracture and little is known on the exact role of the fracture hematoma within bone healing. In his PhD project, Rald aims to gain more insight in the composition- and role of the fracture hematoma in bone healing.
