Roman Truckenmüller

Principal Investigator and Chair CTR

Prof. Roman Truckenmüller has a professorship in micro tissue engineering at Maastricht University. He holds an engineering diploma and a doctorate in engineering science from the Universities of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, Germany, respectively. After working as a development engineer for Siemens in Erlangen, Germany, he worked at the Institute for Microstructure Technology (IMT) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). At IMT/KIT, he carried out his doctoral project on the fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures from polymer membranes, worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of X-ray lithography and headed a research group on membrane-based microfluidic sensors and actuators from polymers. He then worked at the Department of Tissue Regeneration (TR) of the University of Twente (UT), The Netherlands, where he was appointed assistant professor in 2010. In 2014, he changed over to the successor of TR/UT, to the MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine at UM, and was promoted to associate professor. In 2019, he became full professor at the same institute. Roman is one of the three founders of the start-up company 300MICRONS, spun-off from KIT in 2015 and dealing with advanced 3D cell culture solutions based on proprietary platform technologies.
