Sophia obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2019, from Politecnico di Milano, working on 3D printing. In 2021, she received her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization on tissue engineering and biomaterials, at Politecnico di Milano. During the Master thesis, she could approach research, working on the optimization and validation of hydrogel-based drug delivery systems, for breast cancer therapy.
In February 2022 she moved to Maastricht to start her double degree PhD, under the supervision of Prof. Lorenzo Moroni from MERLN, and Prof. Claudia Dolci from University of Milano. In particular, the aim of her PhD project is to produce composite materials suitable for the 3D printing of scaffolds, for the regeneration of critical-sized mandibular defects.
