Sophia obtained her bachelor’s (2019) and master’s degree cum laude in Biomedical Engineering (2021) at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). During this period, she developed an interest in research in the biomedical field, which led her to undertake a one-year thesis intership, working on hydrogel-based drug delivery systems for cancer treatment.
After finishing her studies, she decided to orient her research focus on biomaterials and biofabrication. Thus, in 2022, Sophia joined Maastricht University to pursue a double degree Ph.D. between the MERLN Institute and the University of Milano, under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Lorenzo Moroni, Prof. Dr. Gianluca Tartaglia and Dr. Claudia Dolci. Her doctoral research centered on biofabrication technologies and biomaterials with osteogenic and angiogenic properties to promote craniomaxillofacial bone regeneration.
Alongside her Ph.D., Sophia worked as a scientific consultant, conducting biological evaluation of novel biomaterials for dental applications for CE certification.
Sophia is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Dr. Lorenzo Moroni, where she focuses on scaffold design and light-based fabrication technologies for advanced biomedical applications.
