Bioprinting of Cardiac 3D In vitro models to study ageing

Alix comes from Belgium, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Liège. Her interest in stem cells and their wide range of applications drove her to Maastricht where she completed her master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences specializing in Regenerative Medicine. During this time, she got the opportunity to do her master’s thesis at the Stem Cell Institute of Leuven. There, she worked on the development of a hiPSC-derived 3D blood-brain barrier model on a chip. This project makes her passionate about in vitro modelling and its challenges.

In April 2023, Alix started working as a PhD candidate at CTR under the supervision of Prof. Lorenzo Moroni. Her PhD project is part of the PULSE project aiming at developing a new bioprinting technology based on magneto-acoustic principles that could be used on Earth and in Space. She will be involved in the bioprinting of cardiac iPSC-derived 3D in vitro models using space environment as a tool to study aging.
