Bengü Aktaş

Visiting Scientist

Combining 3D hydrogels and surface modifications

Bengü got her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at Ege University, then continued to pursue a master’s degree in field of Biomaterials at Bogazici University, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on surface modification with amino acid conjugated self-assembly molecules. Now, she is a PhD candidate in the same department, and studying her thesis project related to design and fabrication of 3D neural culture structures for monitoring neural implant performance.

She recently joined Complex Tissue Regeneration (CTR) department as a visiting researcher for pursuing her studies under the supervision of Paul Wieringa. Bengü’s project aims to utilize the combination of 3D hydrogel matrix environment and surface modification techniques to understand and alleviate glial scar formation around neural implants.
