NBTE conference 2019

The Netherlands Society for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (NBTE) is organizing the annual NBTE conference in conference center “De Werelt” in Lunteren. MERLN will be represented by a large delegation of PhD students, postdocs and (assistant) professors who will give oral and poster presentations. Meet us there to discuss science!

Seminar by Prof. Subhas Kundu

From 18 till 22 November, Prof. Subhas C. Kundu from the 3B's (Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics) Research Group at University of Minho, Taipas-Guimarães, Portugal, will visit the MERLN institute. He will give a lecture entitled "Natural biomaterials for 3D in vitro cancer cell culture" (abstract). Seminar by Dr. Yaser Atlasi

MERLN has invited Dr. Yaser Atlasi from the department of Molecular Developmental Biology at the Radboud University to give a presentation entitled: “The epigenetic regulation and 3D chromatin organization in embryonic stem cells”. His current research focuses on using genome wide technologies to understand the epigenetic and transcriptional regulation in homeostasis and disease states. An abstract and bio can be found here. The presentation will take place in the MERLN office (UNS40, C3.577) on Thursday October 31, at 10:00.

MERLN Outreach: Lecture at Bernardinuscollege

Mireille Sthijns, one of the members of MERLN's outreach team, will be giving a lecture at the Bernardinuscollege in Heerlen. During their Academic Skills Day, high school students will follow lectures and workshops from Maastricht University employees. Mireille will talk about regenerative medicine, focusing among others on the work we do at MERLN. The lecture will be on October 28 but is not open to the public.

Seminar by Prof. Kristi Kiick

MERLN has invited Prof. Kristi Kiick to give a seminar at MERLN. Prof. Kiick works at the University of Delaware in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She is an expert on the synthesis, characterization, and application of protein, peptide, and self-assembled materials for applications in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and bioengineering, with specific research in cardiovascular, vocal fold, and cancer therapies. Prof. Kiick will give a presentation entitled: “Macromolecular structures for selectively and efficiently engaging cellular targets to mediate biological events”.
The seminar will take place in the MERLN kitchen (UNS40, C3.577) from 13.30 - 14.30. An abstract and bio can be found here.

MERLN has invited Daniel Oberski, associate professor at Utrecht University’s Department of Methodology & Statistics, to lead a workshop on Design of Experiments.

From the 9th till the 13th of September, the 30th annual ESB conference is taking place at the International Congress Center in Dresden, Germany. MERLN will attend with a large delegation. MERLN has invited Prof. Wei Sun to give a lecture entitled “Printing Cells: Process, Application and Challenge”. Prof. Sun is Chair of the Mechanical Engineering department at Drexel University, and National “Thousand-Talent” Distinguished Professor and Director of Biomanufacturing and Medical Devices Frontier Innovation Engineering Research Center, Tsinghua University, China. The lecture takes place in the MERLN office (UNS40, C3.577) and starts at 14:30.
