In a collaboration between MERLN's Martijn van Griensven and the MUMC+ Traumatology department, a successful application of a 3D printed scaffold saved the leg of an unfortunate motorcyclist who suffered a severe bone fracture after an accident.
The 3D scaffold was used to fill up a large gap in his tibia which was subsequently seeded with stem cells from the patient's hip. After several months of recovery and growth he is now able to walk again!
Congratulations to everyone involved!
