The Maastricht University Supervisory Board has appointed Professor Pamela Habibovic as Rector Magnificus and member of the UM Executive Board. She will officially take up the role on 1 February 2022.
While MERLN is sad to see Pamela leave, we are equally thrilled at this new opportunity for her and excited about the changes it will bring to the MERLN Institute. After taking over as Scientific Director of MERLN in 2019, replacing Prof. Clemens van Blitterswijk who stepped down, Pamela led the Institute to where it is today. Throughout her career, Pamela has always based her work on a vision of sharing of knowledge, infrastructure and ambition. By adhering to and further building on our collective mission of combining high-quality creative research with training the next generations of interdisciplinary scientists, she has successfully made the regenerative medicine field in Maastricht come to fruition.
These achievements were also recognized by the Supervisory Board. Annelies van der Pauw, chair of the Board: “Over the last few years, Pamela has shown that she thinks and works in an interdisciplinary manner within the university, and builds bridges between the university and partners in the region and beyond. Her scientific background and congenial leadership style provide an excellent basis for her appointment to the Executive Board.”
MERLN wholeheartedly congratulates Pamela with this tremendous achievement and we wish her all the best in her new position as Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University!
