Elizaveta Glinskaia

PhD Student

Developing a mature in vitro kidney model by exploiting different bioprinting technologies combined with organoid knowledge (NEPHRON)

Elizaveta holds a Specialist degree in Medical Biochemistry from Sechenov Medical University in Moscow. During her studies, she joined 3D Bioprinting Solutions, the first bioprinting company in Russia, where she investigated the antitumor effects of photodynamic therapy using a synthetic bacteriochlorin in 3D spheroid models of liver and colon cancer.

After graduating in 2024, she continued her research with the same group as a research assistant in the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS, Moscow. There, she focused on developing liver tumor models using cancer cell lines within 3D extrusion bioprinting platforms.

Currently at MERLN, as part of the ERC-funded NEPHRON project, her work will aim to develop advanced vascularized in vitro models of functional nephrons by integrating multiple 3D bioprinting techniques and kidney organoid technology. NEPHRON seeks to deepen our understanding of bioprinting functional kidney units while providing more predictive in vitro systems to study kidney development, disease, and regeneration. Ultimately, these insights may contribute to alternative therapeutic strategies and lay the groundwork for the future possibility of bioprinting a fully functional organ.
