Engineering soft materials as advanced tissue matrices and next generation medical devices

Hydrogels are a diverse class of soft materials with applications spanningfields including regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, drug delivery andbeyond. Chemical modification of hydrogel precursors can enable preciseand tailored crosslinks between polymers chains and facilitate tuneablephysicomechanical hydrogel properties. Our laboratory is interested inchemical modifications which allow hydrogels to adhere to and heal tissues,or alter the mechanical properties of hydrogels to culture cells and mimictissues. Specifically, our focus is on tissue adhesive, bioorthogonal click anddynamic covalent chemistries which we leverage to enable hydrogels asbiomimetic matrices for 3D cell culture and medical devices such asadvanced surgical glues.
