MERLN/IDS team winner WiDS dathaton 2020

Our gender balanced MERLN/IDS team "BetterLateThanNever" won the WiDS dathaton 2020, Maastricht Edition. They are also 265th/951 in the global challenge (Top 30% of the global ranking).

The WiDS Datathon 2020 focuses on patient health through data from MIT’s GOSSIS (Global Open Source Severity of Illness Score) initiative. The challenge was to predict patient survival using the data collected at the intensive care units, during the first 24 hours of stay. Our team used the CatBoost algorithm together with their medical knowledge to come up with a model that predicts patient survival probability with an accuracy >90%.

This event is part of WiDS regional events that takes place at over 200 cities in over 60 countries around the world.
