We are pleased to announce that Sabine van Rijt had been appointed as Professor of Inorganic Nanomaterials for Regenerative Medicine.
Sabine joined MERLN in 2016, where she founded her research group Inorganic Nanomaterials for Regenerative Approaches. Her research lies at the intersection of nanotechnology, materials science, and regenerative medicine, with a focus on the modular design of inorganic nanomaterials to guide tissue repair and regeneration. In 2023, Sabine received the prestigious ERC Consolidator grant of €2M euros for her research project Nano4Bone, which allowed her to explore a new direction in her research on biomaterials for use in the treatment of cancer patients who have had surgery to remove diseased bone. During an interview with the Dutch radio station BNR, Sabine explains Nano4Bone.
Since September 2024, Sabine is chair of the Instructive Biomaterials Engineering (IBE) department at MERLN. The department is currently expanding, with two new Principal Investigators joining the team: Dominik Schauenburg and Simon van Herck.
With her appointment, Sabine becomes the fifth professor at MERLN, alongside Roman Truckenmüller, Lorenzo Moroni, Clemens van Blitterswijk, and Martijn van Griensven.
