Modular Biomaterials for Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering

With a multidisciplinary background in biochemical engineering, biotechnology and nanobiotechnology, Olivera has developed a strong interest in designing biomaterials that can interact with and guide biological systems. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology from the University of Belgrade, followed by a Master’s degree in Nanobiotechnology at Université Grenoble Alpes. During her Master’s research at CEA-Leti in Grenoble, she worked on developing a porous membrane for a gut-on-chip model, combining biomaterials, cell culture and microphysiological systems.

In September 2026, Olivera joined the MERLN Institute as a PhD candidate within the DRIVE-RM consortium. Her research explores a bottom-up approach to musculoskeletal tissue engineering, using modular biomaterials as independently tunable building blocks. By integrating structural, immunomodulatory and osteogenic functions within a single system, she aims to investigate how different regenerative cues can be controlled and combined to support bone regeneration. Ultimately, her work seeks to contribute to more adaptable and functionally instructive biomaterials for regenerative medicine.
