Weekend van de Wetenschap 2026
Mini Lecture
A mini lecture is a short, inspiring 10-minute presentation in which a scientist or expert introduces children aged 8–14 to the world of science. It is not a traditional lecture, but rather a brief introduction to your field that sparks the imagination, inspires curiosity, and encourages questions.
Filling Bone Gaps with Plastic and Cells - Martijn van Griensven
An accident can happen in the blink of an eye… and suddenly, you have a broken leg. Often, it heals well, but sometimes it doesn’t. In that case, you may have a gap in your bone and be unable to walk. In this mini lecture, you will learn how we operate on a “regular” bone fracture and what we can do when the gap is too large to heal on its own. We can then use plastic and a 3D printer to create a bone-shaped structure. We fill it with special cells, which can then develop into new bone. And before you know it, you can walk again!
