Yaohui Zhang is a PhD student jointly affiliated with the Department of Trauma Surgery at Maastricht University Medical Center+ and the MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine.
He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine and Master's degree in Orthopedics from Shanxi Medical University, China. In February 2025, he started his PhD project focusing on the temporal profiling and functional analysis of neutrophils within human fracture hematoma.
His research explores the polarization status and secretome of neutrophils and investigates their roles in bone regeneration. Bone fractures, especially those with impaired healing, remain a major clinical challenge worldwide.
By studying the dynamic behavior of neutrophils during fracture healing, Yaohui aims to identify potential therapeutic targets to enhance bone repair. His project combines clinical insights from trauma surgery with advanced regenerative medicine approaches developed at MERLN, bridging fundamental science with translational applications.
