Martijn van Griensven receives the ‘Career Achievement Award’ at TERMIS

We are extremely proud to announce that Martijn van Griensven received the ‘Career Achievement Award’ at the TERMIS-EU 2026 Conference in Palma de Mallorca.

During the award ceremony, Martijn shared his deep fascination with regenerative medicine and reflected on his journey through the field. Martijn started his career at Hannover Medical School and became the youngest professor in Germany. Since 2019, Martijn is a full professor at MERLN, leads the ‘Molecular and Translational Regenerative Medicine’ Group, is department head of Cell Biology-Inspired Tissue Engineering (CBITE), and is MERLNs Vice Director.

Martijn’s main focus are cells and their role in tissue regeneration. He investigates cellular interactions with other cells and biomaterials. Thereby, interactions with immune cells are crucial. Thus, the communication between biomaterials, cells and factors intrigues him. In his projects, Martijn tries to elucidate the concomitant molecular, cellular and mechanical circuits. Knowing how these circuits are composed in pathology, homeostasis and in complex 3D in vitro structures will help understand mechanisms and use them for therapeutic purposes. Together with this research group and the MUMC+, Martijn strives for translating this knowledge back to the patient.
